How to make IoT On Air Sign for Twitch

In this project, we’ll show you how to make an internet connected on-air sign using an Adafruit HUZZAH ESP8266 and NeoPixel LEDs.

It will light up whenever your favorite Twitch channel start streaming. You can use this as visual notification or if you’re a broadcaster, this will let the people around know to be courteous!

The four piece enclosure is 3D printed and are free to download and modify.

Visit the Adafruit Learning System for a full step by step tutorial on how to wire and assemble this simple circuit.

  1. Hey I've been trying to get mine to turn on but the lights aren't coming on given how old this is can you please make an updated 2019 version of the code or something?

  2. Will the device have to be a Adafruit HUZZAH ESP8266 or can it be a regular Wemos ESP8266, and can the code be modified to light up red or whatever color when I get a subscriber and green for a follow?

  3. I am going to do this and tie it in to my home automation system. My office is close to the AC unit so I already have a rule that when im recording it turns off the HVAC until I am done. So I can add this to it and let the rest of the house know 1. i am recording, 2 that's why the AC is off

  4. My boyfriend and I both work from home in our one bedroom apartment. I'd like to modify this sign so that it tells me when a skype call or google hangouts is in session. Any thoughts on if this is possible? Where do I start?
